At Equal Care, we’ve co-developed a comprehensive set of policies that support how we work - from safeguarding and support planning to recruitment, rates and risk. They’ve been shaped by people giving and receiving care, and are regularly updated in response to lived experience, legal changes and co-op feedback.
We don’t treat policies as paperwork to be glanced at once during onboarding. For us, they’re everyday tools - practical, accessible and designed to be useful to the people they affect.
Our policies are hosted on a shared wiki-style website that’s updated regularly. It acts as a living reference point for our members, ensuring key information stays relevant, readable and up to date.
🛠️ Looking for a policy? We don’t publish everything publicly - making use of Equal Care's policies is for those organisations or groups wishing to adopt the support model and work proactively with us.
To ensure that everyone in our co-operative flourishes, is confident in their role and to stay inspired about their work we have developed the Peer Supervision system.
This recognises that care work has an emotional load, and so we want people to take the space they need to feel and deal with the emotional side of their work.
Peer Supervision is used to help people to feel brave and well-resourced in the face of challenging situations and to have all the support they need to move forward in the moment rather than allow problems to “stew” or go unresolved.
We have developed a handbook and training in peer supervision, which we are happy to share with groups we are actively collaborating with.
Equal Care has produced the Worker Welcome Book, a comprehensive guide to onboard new worker members of the co-operative.
Joining Equal Care is... a lot. There are a lot of ways of working and terms that people have never heard of before. Although they all do what they say on the tin (e.g. team starter) it can take some time to get your head round. The Welcome Book walks new workers through everything about the co-op. One for people getting support and their advocates is currently in development.
We have not published the book here but happy to share and adapt as part of active collaboration with other prospective circles.
