Equal Care Coop's Social Climate Survey

At Equal Care Coop, we are committed to fostering an environment where both care workers and care receivers experience mutual growth, well-being, and empowerment. As part of our ongoing efforts to refine and improve the cooperative, we have developed a Social Climate Survey. This survey plays a key role in understanding how well we are achieving our goals and whether our systems, structures, and relationships are truly supporting the people involved.

Purpose of the Survey

The Social Climate Survey is designed to evaluate how well Equal Care Coop is fulfilling its mission of creating a cooperative care environment that empowers individuals and supports well-being. It aims to gather valuable feedback from care workers, care receivers, and other members of the cooperative to address critical questions such as:

  • Are we achieving the cooperative's goals of growth and mutual well-being?

  • Do the relationships within the cooperative foster empowerment and positive change?

  • Are the systems and technologies we have put in place effectively distributing power and responsibility?

  • Are we maintaining the right balance of power between caregivers, care receivers, and the broader community?

By collecting and analyzing this data, we can better understand the unique challenges and opportunities each team or circle within Equal Care Coop faces. This will allow us to refine our approaches and ensure that our cooperative structure remains inclusive, supportive, and responsive to the needs of everyone involved.

Areas of Focus

The survey is structured to capture key aspects of the social climate across different domains:

  • Growth Outcomes: How well does the cooperative nurture personal development and empowerment? This includes evaluating opportunities for members to grow, influence decision-making, and feel included in the community.

  • Systems & Co-production Outcomes: How effective are the cooperative’s systems and structures in supporting co-production, transparency, and accountability? The survey explores how well these systems are working to maintain clarity, adapt to changing needs, and empower everyone involved.

  • Well-being, Belonging & Community Outcomes: How strong are the emotional and social bonds within the cooperative? This section looks at the quality of relationships, the sense of belonging within the community, and overall well-being.

How the Survey Works

Each respondent is asked to focus on one team or circle within the cooperative per survey. This allows us to capture detailed insights specific to each group, highlighting both common themes and unique challenges across the cooperative. Individuals who are part of multiple teams or circles are encouraged to complete a survey for each one to provide a comprehensive view.

The more members of a team or circle who participate in the survey, the richer and more accurate the resulting profile will be. Each individual's perspective adds a valuable piece to the overall picture, helping to capture the full range of experiences, strengths, and challenges within the group. By encouraging wide engagement, we can build a comprehensive and unique profile of each team or circle, highlighting both common themes and individual nuances.

This profile will provide key insights into what is working well and where additional support might be needed, allowing teams and circles to better understand their dynamics and unlock their full potential. The more voices we hear, the more tailored and actionable our support can be, ultimately helping each team and circle to thrive in its own way.

Encouraging Honest Feedback To ensure that the survey results reflect true experiences, we emphasize the importance of avoiding "social desirability bias"—the tendency to provide answers that might seem more socially acceptable rather than truly reflective of one’s thoughts and feelings. The survey is confidential, and participants are encouraged to answer honestly, without concern for what others might think or expect. This openness is essential for us to gather the insights needed to improve the cooperative for everyone.

What We Hope to Achieve

The Social Climate Survey plays a key role in helping Equal Care Coop understand how well we are meeting the needs of our members and staying true to our mission of mutual growth, well-being, and empowerment. By gathering feedback from care workers, care receivers, and other participants, we aim to identify both the strengths and challenges present within our cooperative. This survey is not just about assessing the current state of our cooperative; it is also about shaping its future.

One of the key outcomes of the survey is the creation of unique social climate profiles for each team and circle. These profiles are invaluable tools for understanding the specific dynamics within each group—highlighting their strengths, challenges, and areas for growth. By encouraging wide participation, we can capture a holistic view of how well each team or circle functions, which allows us to provide targeted, meaningful support. These profiles offer several important benefits:

Ultimately, the unique social climate profiles contribute to the overall resilience and success of Equal Care Coop. By supporting teams and circles in a way that reflects their distinct needs, we ensure that the cooperative remains a space where both care workers and receivers can thrive.

Identifying Strengths and Challenges:

The profiles provide a clear picture of what is working well within a team or circle—such as strong collaboration or high levels of trust—and where there may be challenges that require attention. This enables teams to recognize their successes while also focusing on areas where additional resources or changes in structure may be needed.

Tailored Support and Resources:

Each profile is unique to its team or circle, allowing us to provide personalized support that addresses the specific needs of that group. Whether it’s improving communication, fostering stronger relationships, or enhancing participation, the insights from the profiles help us offer customized solutions.

Facilitating Team Development and Growth:

The profiles also serve as a foundation for team development. By providing a detailed understanding of the current social climate, teams can set informed goals and work towards creating a more supportive and empowering environment. This helps align their efforts with the cooperative’s broader values of empowerment, inclusion, and mutual care.

Encouraging Transparency and Accountability:

The process of creating these profiles encourages honest conversations about roles, responsibilities, and team dynamics. This transparency strengthens co-production and ensures that every member’s input is valued, leading to constructive solutions and improvements.
